Serving in Peru ... Walt and Mary Lynne Wood
The ministry of Team Peru, founded by Walt and Mary Lynne Wood, can be summed up with five words, “Strengthening Churches in the Andes.” Team Peru is a registered 501(c)(3) in Anchorage Alaska. Its purpose is to support the registered Peruvian Association called the Andean Ministry Association of Peru (AMAPeru). AMAPeru plants Quechua Bible Institutes (QBIs) in established churches and has worked with eight different denominations.
During a vacation in Peru in 1998, God touched the hearts of Walt and Mary Lynne Wood for the Quechua people and led them to leave jobs, ministry at Abbott Loop Community Church and their home in Anchorage Alaska. After language school they returned to Peru in May 2000 with the vision of equipping and strengthening the Quechua Church in the Peruvian Andes through systematic Bible training in their heart language.
In 2001 a Quechua team began translating the International School of Ministry (ISOM) Bible Institute into the dialect of Ayacucho Quechua, which has 1.2 million speakers. This 160 class audiovisual resource is perfect for the village churches that lean heavily on oral learning. The translated ISOM program is now called the Quechua Bible Institute (QBI). As of December 2015 there have been seven Spanish graduations and 20 Quechua graduations with a total of 271 graduates. 207 Students in 12 churches are now studying in the QBI. Weekly, pastors come to visit the AMAPeru office after hearing about the QBI through word of mouth and our radio spots. They want to know how they can start a QBI in their church. We are encouraged by testimonies of changed lives, increased faith and strengthened churches. Along with the QBI, we have a number of other powerful Bible materials that we have translated.
