Short-term missions at ALCC ...

The definition of long and short-term outreach varies as much as the location and projects involved.

Currently, a short-term outreach trip is considered to be two years or less. Some people join with organizations such as Youth With A Mission (YWAM) or English Schools International (ESI) for short-term projects, schooling or training. Others start in these programs and become long-term workers. Still others choose to visit a long-term worker or organization and serve with them for a time. A short-term worker could even be someone who is in a part-time capacity with a lot still going on in their hometown. There are many, many variations!

ALCC has several members who have or are currently serving in a short-term outreach capacity. This includes trips to a foreign country, working on a specific local project, and connecting with opportunities in the state of Alaska or the rest of the United States.

At this time ALCC provides mentoring, accountability and pastoring to those seeking a short-term outreach experience. Short-term trips have the potential to be very challenging and life-changing to those who take the opportunity. These trips bring many people to a personal crossroad of sorts, where one is forced to consider what serving really is and how they are responding to this call in their personal lives.

Before embarking on a journey in short-term outreach, you should ask yourself a few questions:

First, what am I doing in my own life, right here in Alaska, which is answering the call of God and sharing the true Gospel Message of Jesus?

The second question is truly seeking out "What is the Gospel Message and what does that look like with skin on?"

Listed to the left are ALCC members who are currently serving or preparing to serve as short-term workers. This list is by no means comprehensive - there are scores of trips and projects that have happened over the years, too many to list in one place.

If you are interested in being involved in short-term outreach, and need help getting started, contact Carolyn Knobel, Global Outreach Director at the church office.
